9:00 a.m. – Governance 101: We will cover what you need to know to create and sustain an active and engaged board. Topics include governance vs management; the board’s oversight role; board and school leader partnership; and the most common and avoidable mistakes made by boards.
10:00 a.m. – Finance 101: Nearly 2/3 of charter school failures arise directly from financial mismanagement. We will share with you the basic financial tools and best practices, including internal controls, that your founding team needs to know before your first day of school begins.
11:00 a.m. – Community Advocacy 101: You have the idea, you’ve created the plan, you’ve assembled a team…but where is everyone? Is the community on board? It’s easy to complete an application checklist, the hard part is getting buy-in from elected officials, local community and business leaders, and potential families. Let our external affairs and advocacy team help you construct and understand that other checklist.
