Message from the Executive Director – July 2018

Summer seems to be getting shorter and shorter! It’s hard to believe its almost time to put the flip-flops away as many teachers and students will be heading back to school in the coming days. It has been a summer to celebrate some significant accomplishments with a charter school educator being named the High School Teacher of the Year by the Louisiana Department of Education. Congratulations to several other charter school educators who were finalists for these prestigious awards.

July has been a busy month with lots of attention focused on Louisiana charter schools. With reunification, New Orleans becomes the first district in the country to oversee a citywide system of public charter schools. As the leading voice for Louisiana public charter schools, LAPCS helped frame the conversation with several national stories on the progress and challenges of New Orleans’ schools and the importance of governance. We’ve detailed much of the coverage below.

As we head back to a new school year; these stories remind me of the vital mission that rests on our shoulders–to empower parents, strengthen schools and silence special interests.

It’s why we are gearing up for our 11th Louisiana Charter Schools Conference, the only statewide gathering for charter schools. The conference is an incredible learning experience. It is about being part of a movement, learning from the best in the field, and learning from each other. You will have the chance to meet peers that struggle with the same issues you do or have solutions to offer you. We hope you’ll participate; you’ll find all the information on awards, tickets, hotels, and discounts below.

Here’s to a great school year!

Regards,

Caroline
