Message from the Executive Director: July 2017

Happy July everyone!

I hope you have had the chance to enjoy some summer fun and relaxation. Personally, I love summer because I think life is much better while in flip flops!

LAPCS has stayed busy since the end of the school year traveling to North Louisiana to visit with membership; working with several charter boards on strategic planning; and hosting our annual July Bottom Line Summer Workshop, where we released the first edition of the Louisiana Charter School Handbook for School Administrators.

Similar to the Charter Board Legal Handbook that is in its fourth year, the School Leader Handbook is a collaboration between LAPCS, Louisiana Appleseed, and attorneys from Baker Donelson and is intended to be a one stop reference guide to Louisiana’s laws and policies for those people leading charter schools–both newcomers and veterans alike.

Each charter school will eventually receive a hard copy version of the book. If you have any questions, please reach out to our Legal and Policy Director (and co-author), Sarah Vandergriff at svandergriff@lacharterschools.org.

Again, enjoy the rest of the summer and be sure to start thinking about joining us for our 10th Anniversary Celebration at the Louisiana Charter Schools Conference. There are lots of opportunities for you to connect; whether you’re interested in award nominations, early bird registrations, or becoming a sponsor.

Regards,

Caroline Roemer

Executive Director
