Statewide education group shared parent and teacher resources at State Charter Schools Conference in Baton Rouge
The Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools (LAPCS) has joined the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) and other business, education and community organizations, in a state-wide effort to bolster education in Louisiana and prepare parents and educators for the release of the 2015 PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) student results in mid-November.
Over the past few months, LAPCS has partnered with the LDOE and more than 100 education, community and business organizations across the state to share parent guides, parent conference videos, and sample student reports with Louisiana teachers and families in preparation for the PARCC student results. In addition to sharing parent resources digitally, LAPCS recently passed out parent guides to hundreds of attendees at the State Charter Schools Conference in Baton Rouge.
“As a membership organization that serves as the voice for the charter school movement across Louisiana, LAPCS believes that parents should have the tools they need to make the right educational choices for their children,” said Caroline Roemer, executive director of LAPCS. “The PARCC resources provided by the LDOE will help parents better understand how their students are currently performing academically, and it will help teachers have more informed conversations with parents to better support students moving forward.”
The online resources for families and teachers created by the LDOE include:
Parent Guide to PARCC Student Results:A guide to help parents read and interpret the PARCC student reports, with accompanying online resources.
Model Parent-Teacher Conference Video:A video demonstrating a model parent-teacher conference around the PARCC student reports.
