D’Arbonne Woods Charter School Presented with 2014-2015 Giving Tree Award

FARMERVILLE, La.–The Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools (LAPCS) presented the staff and students of D’Arbonne Woods Charter School with the 2014-2015 Giving Tree Award, given annually to a charter school that demonstrates excellence and success in educating the children of Louisiana. The award presentation kicked off D’Arbonne Woods’ elementary field day, an end of the year celebration for students and staff.

“We are truly excited to recognize the wonderful things D’Arbonne Woods Charter School has done and continues to do for its students and families,” said LAPCS Executive Director Caroline Roemer Shirley. “D’Arbonne Woods is a great example of a true community-based charter school, and the school is to be commended for providing a great education that meets the unique needs of its students.”

As part of the Giving Tree Award, D’Arbonne Woods received a gift certificate for an oak tree to be planted on their new school campus this fall, along with a copy of the popular Shel Silverstein book and namesake of the award, The Giving Tree.

“LAPCS created this award to recognize our top-performing member schools,” said Roemer Shirley. “Trees are symbolic of health and growth, as well as a reminder of the root support system that is needed for all in order to succeed and thrive. We don’t think there’s a better way to celebrate a school’s success than through The Giving Tree book and an accompanying oak tree.”

D’Arbonne Woods is a Type 2 charter school located in rural northeast Louisiana. The school opened in 2009 with grades K-6, eventually expanding to include middle and high school grades. The school continues to increase its diversity in student enrollment while making significant gains in academic achievement. For more information on D’Arbonne Woods, visit www.darbonnewoods.com.
