Board Member Focus: Vicki Corbett, Bayou Community Academy

Why did you choose to serve? After working on the committee to write the school’s charter it was a natural transition to serve on the board. To see the goals and dreams become a reality are quite fulfilling.

How did you become involved with your school? I was recently retired from the classroom and was asked by a friend if I would be interested in helping to start a charter school. As I learned more about the philosophy of what became Bayou Community Academy, my involvement in the process grew as did my commitment to the school.

What leadership roles have you held while serving on the board? I have served as secretary for the board for four years.

How can people help your school if they are interested? People can help by giving to BCA’s building fund. We are in the process of building a new school building. We need people to support us in this endeavor.
