Why did you choose to serve on your school’s board? I wanted to be part of a board that could make a difference. For many years, I have volunteered at the women’s prison in St. Gabriel and have seen the results of poverty, substandard education, and poor choices. My hope was that by providing children with tools needed for success in life and their career, they would not be caught in that cycle.
How did you become involved with your school? In 2014, I attended a seminar with Kathryn Rice, the founding leader of Baton Rouge College Prep, and we were paired with one another to share our career journeys. I was struck by her love of children, her passion to provide an education for even the most disadvantaged, and her confidence that a charter school could really make a difference.
What leadership roles have you had while serving on the board? I’m addition to serving as a Director, I am the Chair of the Finance Committee.
How can people help your school if they are interested? Donate of course – your time, your money, your influence, and your passion to make a difference in children’s lives through education.
