Why did you choose to serve on your school’s board? I believe education is the single most important thing in a child’s life. It is the one thing that can never be taken away and will guide them going forward in life. It is wonderful to see the progression from the elementary level to the university level and I am thrilled to be a part of that with Firstline.
How did you become involved with your school? I became involved with Firstline Schools through their Edible School Yard program and wanted to have a more active role in how children in New Orleans are educated. I also serve on the board of my Alma Mater, Queens University, in Charlotte, North Carolina and becoming a board member for Firstline was more than a logical choice for me.
What leadership roles have you had while serving on the board? I recently joined the board in 2015, but currently chair the development committee and sit on the facilities and governance committees.
How can people help your school if they are interested? We offer a variety of programs which directly impact the children of Firstline Schools, such as Edible School Yard Nola, Summer Camp X and Personalized Learning. All of our programs, schools and ways to volunteer and donate are listed at firstlineschools.org.
