Board Member Focus: M. Cleland Powell, III, Bricolage Academy

Why did you choose to serve on your school’s board? I am a firm believer in the charter school concept, and feel that it puts our children and not the system as a first priority. It also gives the community an opportunity to determine the success or failure of the school. I am committed to making our public educational school system better than it ever was through partnership with LAPCS.

How did you become involved with your school? I met Josh Denson before the school was chartered. Josh’s dream resonated with me and I have followed the schools progress over the past five years. It is remarkable to see the product that he has created. Josh embodies the quote from Churchill: “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Josh has devoted the past six years of his life to this school and has a remarkable product to show for his hard work.

What leadership roles have you had while serving on the board? I am very new to the Board but hope to assist with finance and development.

How can people help your school if they are interested? I would recommend to anyone who is interested in Bricolage that they attend a meeting and bring centers of influence to the meetings as well.
