Board Member Focus: J. Ronnie Davis, Young Audiences Charter School

Why did you choose to serve on your school’s board? I believe in giving back to the community, being engaged with the community, and making a difference. In my MBA classes at UNO, I always make these beliefs known to my students and recommend these beliefs to them in their careers. To me, the best way to serve these beliefs is to devote myself to the children of the community.

How did you become involved with your school? My wife, Arthurine Payton Davis, is on the Board of Young Audiences. Leadership of Young Audiences and Young Audiences Charter School knew me and learned I had written a book, Evaluation Educational Investment, and asked me to serve on the Board of the Charter School. Without hesitation, I agreed. I am a strong believer in and advocate for integrating the arts in education.

What leadership roles have you held while serving on the board? I am Chair of the Academics Committee and a member of the Finance Committee.

How can people help your school if they are interested? Of course, people and businesses can help financially to achieve our vision and accomplish our mission. Writers, musicians, vocalists, and dancers can help in kind. They can devote time and performance in residence. Organizations can volunteer their people to campus beautification and facility improvement.J.
