Board Member Focus: Elaine Reyes, Arise Schools

Why did you choose to serve on your school’s board? ARISE Schools’ mission to builds scholars, and communities around them, ready for success in high school, college and the world beyond was inspirational to me and I wanted to assist the organization and its scholars in achieving that success. Serving on the board not only has allowed me to apply my financial expertise beyond the workplace, but it also gives me the opportunity to work with other members of the community to reach a common goal.

How did you become involved with your school? One of my clients also served as a board member and introduced me to ARISE. At that time, ARISE operated one charter school, ARISE Academy. Leadership at ARISE was so passionate about the school and providing a great education to the scholars. Their passion motivated me to also serve the community by way of becoming a Finance Committee member and subsequently, a board member.

What leadership roles have you had while serving on the board? I have served as Treasurer of the Board for the past 6 years and have been the Chairman of the Finance Committee for the past 5 years.

How can people help your school if they are interested? ARISE Schools offers a ‘open house’ event each month at ARISE Academy or Mildred Osborne. It is a great opportunity to learn about the organization firsthand from ARISE leadership, faculty, and students as well as tour the campus. More information can be found on the organization’s website at http://www.ariseschools.org.
