Why did you choose to serve? I was asked to serve and it seemed a good match for my skills and interests. I am a former educator, having filled chairs from high school teacher to school principal, university professor and central office administrator. The last five years of my career were here in New Orleans with the Orleans Parish School Board. I lived in France for over 22 years and did consulting for international schools in curriculum development and served on two school boards, Marymount School in Paris and the American School of Paris. I served as President of Marymount during its capital campaign.
How did you become involved with your school? An acquaintance spoke to me about the school, and then I visited it. I was already acquainted with the previous Head of School and had heard a number of things about the program. I was especially interested in the International Baccalaureate program, having seen it operate extensively in Europe.
What leadership roles have you held while serving on the board? I served on the Academic Committee last year and chair that committee this year. When possible, I sit in on other committee meetings, just to learn.
How can people help your school if they are interested? Ask questions, visit the website, visit the school or come to a board meeting.
