Academic WorldQuest Looking for School Partners in New Orleans

Academic WorldQuest is a quiz competition for high schools organized by the World Affairs Councils of America that tests competing teams’ knowledge of international affairs, geography, history and culture. A unique opportunity to expose students to the world outside our borders and prepare them for the challenges and the opportunities of the 21st Century, the World Affairs Councils of America of New Orleans (WACNO) is seeking partner high schools to participate in the inaugural year of the local competition.

During the competition, teams of four students each (grades 9-12) answer questions from categories provided, along with a study guide, through the World Affairs Council. This year’s topics include: NATO, Asia matters for America, privacy in the digital age, food security, the Arctic, and others. The game contributes to the national Common Core State Standards Initiative by fostering reading comprehension skills for informational text. Each spring, the winning teams from local competitions across the country are invited to Washington, D.C., for the national high school competition.

Schools interested in participating should contact Christina Kiel at 718.790.9426 or christina.kiel@gmail.com.
