In 1998, FirstLine Schools started the first charter school in New Orleans. FirstLine now operates five K-8th grade schools and a high school. Our mission is to create and inspire great open admissions public schools in New Orleans.

The School-Based Parent Organizers are a pair of pro-active, solution-oriented professionals committed to helping Green Charter School enroll a diverse range of families. They will also support a healthy cohesive community of diverse families. The School-Based Organizers will be responsible for leading diverse family outreach and enrollment in Samuel J. Green School through:
- Outreach to future families
- Neighborhood-specific organizing
- Engaging Green families and staff in these efforts
The School-Based Parent Organizers will make parents aware of Green as an educational option for their child(ren) through a variety of means – workshops, meetings, roundtables, home visits, forming and leading parent and neighborhood committees and other core strategies that empower parents to be active members in their community. The School-Based Parent Organizers will customize engagement strategies for the range of communities across the city. As a School-Based Organizer, you will be responsible for learning the needs of these communities as they relate to equitable access to educational opportunities, capacity building to create strong relationships with community members, and executing successful engagement projects.
Key responsibilities and tasks include but are not limited to:
- Plan, coordinate, and implement effective outreach and organizing strategies for assigned projects; create work plans and outreach plans as requested by the School Director or Project Manager
- Set goals for outreach and individual projects and metrics by which success will be achieved
- Be responsible for all pre and post-event logistics including the organization of materials, location, outreach, etc.
- Build working relationships with community-based organizations, neighborhood associations, government bodies, early childhood centers, and individual community members
- Actively participate in and support the Samuel J Green Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee
- Coordinate meetings with the DEI committee on the design and development of community engagements
- Identify and prioritize issues of importance to families
- Provide regular updates on engagement and recruitment efforts and milestones
- Support parent leaders of the DEI Committee.
- Develop information materials for outreach and related projects
- Plan and oversee various forms of outreach including door-to-door, phone banking, “Sidewalk Engagement”, workshop/meeting presentation, convening and facilitating meetings (including one-on-one, small group, and large community meetings)
- Help develop and implement training modules for leadership, staff, parents and faculty on effective engagement strategies
- Represent Green School at local community events and meetings
- Assist in fundraising strategy and grant writing for relevant projects and initiatives
- Document all meetings, actions items, initiatives as they occur and report back to PM and School Director
- Regularly report on future family outreach and parent advisory board engagement
- Attend all necessary events and meetings such as monthly Green leadership meetings and/or professional development
- Submit bi-weekly timesheets
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations in various communities
- Demonstrated ability to bring disparate constituents together to achieve common goals
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and maintain a dialogue with individuals and organizations with diverse experience and viewpoints
- Responsible, self-motivated, and able to carry out and prioritize multiple ongoing projects
- Excellent public speaking skills

- Excellent time management skills, organizational skills and ability to work without direct supervision
Education & Experience:
- Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent in-person communication skills, bilingual Spanish/English preferred
- Knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
- Ability to work under pressure and think quickly on their feet
- Ability to work independently
- Familiarity with and understanding of educational, residential and economic disparity in New Orleans
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum 2 years related experience in community organizing OR a minimum four years related experience in New Orleans educational community.
- Workload requires local travel; must have access to a reliable vehicle and possess LA Class C Driver’s License and insured vehicle.
- Report regularly to Project Manager; provide at minimum a simple daily schedule of tasks to deliver to the PM and School Director
- Respond to staff, vendor, donors, and community members in a timely manner
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace and digital archive
- Must be willing to work a non-standard schedule including nights and weekends.
