The Top Shelf
Enhancing Board Capacity, Engaging Community
"From what we get, we make a living; what we give however, makes a life."
Serving on a charter school board offers a unique opportunity for civic engagement and allows community members to contribute to the excitement and momentum of the charter school landscape. Charter school board members are knowledgeable, dedicated individuals who care about building a better tomorrow through their service. Launched in October 2012, The Top Shelf enhances the effectiveness of charter school boards through ongoing professional development and increases the pool of qualified board members through The Top Shelf Board Bank, a pool of board-members-in-waiting.
"The Top Shelf has been integral in our vetting of high quality board members. As we look to expand our board, knowing that we have access to individuals who are passionate about the charter movement makes the process so much smoother."
-Niloy Gangopadhyay, Co-Founder/Principal, Success Preparatory Academy
From inception to December 2013, The Top Shelf has delivered over 30 training sessions, including customized sessions for individual charter school boards, and recruited 170 prospective board members from across nine parishes.
